🧠 Background

In this episode of the Chiro Hustle Podcast, Bharon Hoag shares the story of how a young man who did not even know chiropractic existed answered a job ad, became a public relations chiropractic assistant, fell in love with the power of the adjustment, and eventually became one of the loudest global voices defending chiropractic.

Bharon is not a chiropractor, but his life and family have become deeply rooted in chiropractic. From helping grow clinics, to consulting doctors, to leading the Ohio State Chiropractic Association, to founding One Chiropractic, Bharon has spent decades fighting for the profession, protecting its identity, and calling chiropractors back to hope, principle, and organized action.

This conversation is a wake-up call. It addresses the global state of chiropractic, the threat of drug expansion, the loss of philosophical clarity, the need to defend subluxation-centered care, and the opportunity for chiropractic to finally stand together around a clear message.

🔥 Highlights

  • Bharon’s unexpected entry into chiropractic after answering a local job ad at 20 years old.

📖 Summary

Bharon Hoag did not grow up in chiropractic. He did not come from a chiropractic family. He had never been adjusted and did not even know the profession existed. But at 20 years old, with a child on the way, he answered an ad for a job in a chiropractic office. That decision changed the course of his life.

As a public relations chiropractic assistant, Bharon learned to tell the story of chiropractic. He learned about the adjustment, pregnancy care, children being checked, innate intelligence, and the body’s ability to adapt and self-organize. The more he learned, the more he fell in love with chiropractic. The more he fell in love with chiropractic, the more he wanted the world to know what he had not been told.

That passion led him into clinic growth, consulting, association leadership, and eventually the creation of One Chiropractic. His mission became clear: protect the profession, defend the adjustment, resist efforts to turn chiropractic into medicine, and help chiropractors organize around the principles that make chiropractic distinct.

This episode also expands the conversation beyond the United States. Bharon explains that chiropractic is still a very small profession globally, with many countries lacking the infrastructure, licensure, and organized representation needed to defend chiropractic. From British Columbia to Australia, Europe, Central America, and beyond, the same core issue appears: if chiropractic does not define itself, others will define it for us.

At its heart, this episode is about hope. Bharon does not deny the problems. He names them directly: infighting, weak messaging, overregulation, student debt, limited access, reimbursement problems, and professional confusion. But he also believes chiropractic is entering a moment of serious opportunity if the profession can organize, speak clearly, and move in one direction.

🔍 Diving In

This episode hits hard because Bharon’s story is not just personal; it is symbolic. He entered chiropractic from the outside and saw something many inside the profession have forgotten: chiropractic is powerful when its story is told clearly.

The central issue is not whether chiropractic can change lives. The episode assumes that it can and does. The real issue is whether chiropractors still believe it enough to communicate it, defend it, and organize around it.

Bharon draws a sharp line between chiropractic as a drugless, subluxation-centered, above-down-inside-out profession and chiropractic being absorbed into the allopathic model. He warns that when chiropractic chases acceptance by becoming more medical, it loses the very thing humanity needs from it.

The episode also makes a distinction between unity and organization. Unity, in the sense of everyone agreeing on everything, may never happen. But organization is possible. Chiropractors can disagree on technique, business model, and secondary issues while still standing together around the core truth that chiropractic is distinct, vitalistic, and centered on the adjustment and the correction of subluxation.

Bharon’s most compelling charge is simple: chiropractic must stop acting like a bullied, confused, divided profession and start acting like a principled, organized, world-changing movement.

Action Steps

  • Tell the chiropractic story clearly and often.
  • Stop apologizing for subluxation, innate intelligence, and the adjustment.
  • Support organizations that actively defend chiropractic identity and rights.
  • Educate students and new doctors in real chiropractic philosophy.
  • Resist efforts to turn chiropractic into medicine-lite.
  • Stay aware of legislative, regulatory, and scope issues in your state and globally.
  • Help the public understand that chiropractic is not merely back pain care.
  • Choose hope over professional cynicism.
  • Organize around the few major issues that matter most.
  • Share this episode with chiropractors, students, leaders, and anyone who needs to remember why chiropractic matters.
